Committees

Church Board

The Church Board is the governing body of the Bondurant Christian Church.  The Board meets in the evening of the second Sunday of each month.  Meetings are open to any member of the congregation.  The Board has the power to form special committees, host the annual meeting, and the officers serve as the Pastoral Review committee.
The board is made up of the following:

Christian Education

This committee’s function is to coordinate and support all the educational activities of the Bondurant Christian Church.  Main duties include:

    Scheduling all Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes
    Recruiting teachers for educational events
    Sponsoring the Midweek Youth Program
    Planning special activities for the youth throughout the year
       

Christian Men's Fellowship (CMF)

This group is open to all the men of the church.  They meet the second Sunday of the month from September to May.  CMF hosts an annual hog roast in October.  Proceeds from hog roast and breakfast meetings are donated to youth camp scholarships and church projects.
       

Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF)

This group is open to all the women of the church.  They meet the third Sunday of the month from September to May.  CWF hosts several fundraising projects – selling cookbooks, Advent celebration and bake sales.  Funds raised are donated to youth camp scholarship.  CWF also host funeral dinners.  
       

Diaconate

The members of the diaconate collect offering and serve communion during Sunday worship services.  Members include adults and members of the Christian Youth Fellowship.  They also assist during baptisms and are mentors and role models for the congregation.



Elders

Elders are the spiritual leaders of the church.  They provide counsel to the pastor, Board, and general church membership.  The elders begin the Sunday worship service and prepare the congregation to accept communion.  Each elder, aided by an assistant elder, is responsible for shepherding a “flock” of members of the congregation.  Elders make home and hospital visits and take communion to members of their flocks who are unable to attend Sunday worship services.


Endowment

The Endowment Fund was established to enhance the mission, outreach and capital needs of the Bondurant Christian Church.  This committee’s function is to accept and invest endowment funds.  The committee is also charged with informing congregational members about the status of the fund.


Memorial

This committee accepts memorial donations and ensures that wishes of the donors are honored.  Recognition of memorial gifts is given annually during a worship service in June.
       

Membership

This committee is responsible for encouraging people from outside the church to join us in our worship of the Lord.  They also create a climate of Christian love and acceptance with in the church.  Committee activities include: hosting monthly fellowship coffees, maintaining membership information, printing the church directory, recognizing graduating seniors, and sponsoring the Iowa State University parking/ticket taking fundraiser.


Missions

This committee supports the mission of the Bondurant Christian Church in the local community and throughout the World.  Missions supports the following programs:
    Special offerings – Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost
    Week of Compassion
    DMARC Food Pantry
    Blanket Sunday
    Heifer International
    The Hunger Hike


Music

This committee provides music for worship services and special events.  They sponsor the church choirs and host fundraising events for the building fund.  The church organist, Merri Cory, provides music for worship services, choir rehearsals, and is available to play for weddings and funerals.  The choir director, Lynette Hubler, directs both the adult Chancel Choir and the FROGS children’s choir.


FROGS

FROGS is the name of our childrens choir.  FROGS is an acronym for Fully Rely on God Singers.  The children’s choir is open to youth from Kindergarten through 6th grades.  They perform one Sunday a month and for special holiday concerts.  The FROGS also present an annual concert in May.


Nursery

This committee ensures that the nursery area is staffed for Sunday worship services and special events.  They are also responsible for ensuring that the furnishings, toys and equipment used in the nursery are adequate, in good repair, clean, and conform to recommended safety guidelines.



Trustees

The trustees maintain the Parsonage, church building and grounds.  They negotiate contracts with vendors to provide necessary services and repairs.  They also organize teams of volunteers who work on special projects.



Stewardship

This committee’s main purpose is to provide an annual budget for the church and ensure that sufficient funding is available to meet that budget.   Duties include overseeing expenditures and informing membership of status of yearly budget.  The Stewardship committee is also working towards discharging the current building debt.


Worship

This committee is responsible for ensuring that all elements are in place for Sunday worship services.  This committee is also responsible for the following:
    Filling the pulpit when the pastor is absent
    Planning special services (e.g. Christmas eve, Maundy Thursday, Palm Sunday)
    Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day recognitions
    Youth Sunday
    Lighting of the Advent Wreath
    World Communion Sunday
    Baby Blessings and Parent Dedications

Upper Midwest Regional Assembly Disciples Network Gathering      Saturday, October 9, is a fantastic chance to join with churches from across the Upper Midwest Region of the Christian Church for a regional gathering unlike any other!     This FREE all day event at the Christian Conference Center in Newton, IA will bring out the best talents, gifts, and programs from other Disciples of Christ churches and give us An opportunity to worship together.      In an optional large group session we will discuss the exciting future of ministry for the region, and in smaller sessions planned throughout the day you can sample Battle of the Praise Bands, Iron Deacon contests, Horseback riding, craft demonstrations and a ton more!  Sign up on the sheet located on the bulletin board in the back of the Sanctuary.
